Articles and Ads about Pink Panther

Since my old web page about Pink Panther went online, people have been kind enough to send me articles and artifacts about the ski hill.  This page is a collection of articles and ads that have been found.  Click on them, and they will get bigger, although some were pretty low res from the start.

1961 Article about the Cain's Ski Area before it was a Commercial Operation

I believe Heidi Cain sent it to me, but I'm not positive.  It is likely from the Press Gazette, but I don't have verification of that either.

March 9, 1969 Article in The Milwaukee Journal

Found on Google Books and shared by my brother, Jon Elfner.

1970s Ads, Articles and Pictures about the Press Gazette Ski School

This is a very high quality ad for the Press Gazette Ski School that was held annually at Pink Panther.  From the picture below, you can tell it was always well-attended.  I suspect a professional from the Press Gazette put this nice ad together.

These three items were undated, but shared by folks on the facebook Group, Lost Wisconsin Ski Areas.  Definitely worth checking out if you used to ski in Wisconsin.

One more article from the Press Gazette about their ski school.  It is undated, but Eric Schumacher (Thanks, Eric) who sent it to me thinks it was from 1972.  That makes sense because it references the '70 and '71 attendance.  It also mentions that it's the 26th running of the Press Gazette Ski School.  So they must have started it somewhere other than Pink Panther.

1970s Ads for Pink Panther

Found on the same facebook group.  Really interesting information and graphics.  Mark Cain told me he thinks his Grandfather, Roy and Don's Dad who was an art teacher, may have designed their Pink Panther that they used in signs, ads, lift tickets and whatnot.

Where to Ski in '72 and '73!

Except to say that I found them on the facebook Lost Wisconsin Ski Areas group, I cannot give proper publishing credit for these two items.  Both have Pink Panther on the map, along with a bunch of other ski areas we probably remember.  The first one is was dated 1972 as well, so both from the same timeframe.

1974 and 1978 Write-Ups for SKI Magazine

Remember SKI Magazine?  They would publish little blurbs about smaller ski areas that people would send in.  Mark Cain believes 'JW' is Jim Ward, who was a reporter for the Press Gazette and a friend of the hill.  This is from Spring 1974.

And this one is from 1982, after the name had been changed to Snowburst.  Certainly by Jim Ward.  I like the little sketches of the area and wonder if they were drawn by Mr. Ward himself or someone else at the newspaper.  Jon Elfner found these for me too.

2015 Photo in the Press Gazette's "Snapshot in Time"

Mark Cain sent this to me the day it appeared in the Press Gazette, and I didn't find it until now, 2018.  But a nice picture of the Pink Panther cutout, along with a bit of Remember When.  Very Nice.

Hmmm, I think I should do some searching on that Neville Public Museum photo site for the next update.

Thanks to everyone who found and shared this content with us.  I can read the text on a large monitor, and I can zoom in to read it on an iPad, but if you want to see more detail, you should be able to right click and download them to your computer with better zooming capabilities.

I'm always looking for more, so if you find something, please send me a comment.
